You have the option to add captions to your Panopto video. This will enable your video to be accessible to almost all students.
STEP 1
Select “Captions” from the menu, located on the left-hand side of the Panopto
website video editor
STEP 2
- Select “Import Captions” to open the drop-down menu.
- Select either “Import Automatic Captions” or “Upload Captions.”
- Upload captions is used if you wish to upload a file which contains a script that you used in your video before recording. You will need to manually select the timeframe that each sentence is used.
Note: To save time, we suggest that you choose Import Automatic Captions.
Import automatic captions allows Panopto to automatically listen to your video and generate captions based on what it hears. You then have the option to edit the captions as needed.
STEP 3
- If you selected “Import Automatic Captions”, then Panopto has auto-filled captions into your video.
- To review the accuracy of the captions, play your video on the right side by selecting the play button, and read along with the automatically generated captions.
- If some of the words within the captions are incorrect, you can Edit the captions.
Click the dots next to the textbox of the associated caption and select "Edit."
d. In the caption textbox, correct the word(s) as needed. Once finished, select Save.
Note: You also have the option to change the timestamp in the video that the caption will have appeared. To change the time, simply type the associated minute and/or second that the caption should appear in the time textbox.
STEP 4
If you selected “Upload Captions,” then you need to choose the file that contains the document that contains your previously typed out captions for your video.
(Note: Panopto accepts the following files for captions: .srt; .ashx; .vtt; and .dxfp)
STEP 5
If the captions are based on your session after you made video edits, then select “Captions are based on the edited session.” Once you are done, select “Upload Captions.”
STEP 6
Once you are finished, select “Apply.”
