Trim Panopto Videos in Post-Production

Panopto has a cut tool which allows you to edit and remove segments of your recorded videos


STEP 1

Hover over your video and click “Edit”Image of available options after hovering over a video, with the "edit" button highlighted with a red rectangle.


 

STEP 2

Select “Cuts” on the left side of the page – this is where you can review the timestamps of segments of video you trim or remove while editingImage of a red arrow pointing to "Cuts" highlighted in list of menu items, and a red arrow pointing to timestamp of a cut to the right.


 

STEP 3

Navigate to the bottom of the page and ensure the cut tool is selected (small green scissors)Image of the cut tool icon highlighted with a red square.

 

When the cut tool is selected, you will see a horizontal grey line at the very beginning and very end of the video contentImage of a red arrow pointing to grey line at beginning of video.

 

Simply click and drag the grey line as a quick method to remove content from the beginning or end of the video – The area that is greyed out will be removedImage of grey line dragged across so there is a grey area in the timeline.

 

To cut content from the middle of the video, double-click at the start time and drag to the right to the end time you want removed – The area that is greyed out will be removedImage of grey area displaying specific timeframe of content being cut.

 

Note: If your video is long, the edit time line may become very small and hard to select a specific time – Use the magnifying glass zoom options that become available on the bottom right for long videos - Zoom in or out on the time line for more accurate cuttingImage of zoom in/out icon.


 

STEP 4

To remove or adjust a cut, click the grey line of your cut and drag to the other grey line until the grey area is removedImage of red arrow pointing to grey line at beginning of cut, with text: "Click grey line and drag right." STEP 5

Click the 3 dots menu on your individual cuts and click ‘Edit’ to manually enter a specific start and end time of your cutTwo images - Image at top of double arrow pointing to 3 dots menu and pointing to "edit" option that appears, with a red arrow pointing down to next image of cut start time, and cut end time fields.


 

STEP 6

When you’re finished, click “Apply” on the top right of the page to permanently save your cuts
(Note: Cuts can always be adjusted or removed at a later time after selecting ‘Apply’)Image of "Apply" button highlighted with a red rectangle.
