Create a Panopto Video (for students)

This document includes steps for students to record a Panopto video.


 

STEP 1

Log in to Brightspace and click in to the Assignment or activity where your instructor posted the Panopto video submission assignment


 

STEP 2

Navigate lower on the page to the text editor and click on the “Insert Stuff” icon at the top of the editorImage of the Insert Stuff icon highlighted with a red rectangle

STEP 3

Select the “Record” option on the right side of the Submission ToolImage of the Panopto Student Submission tool, with the record option highlighted with a red rectangle


 

STEP 4

The current date and time will appear as the video name by default – You can update the name of the video here prior to recording if required by your instructorImage of the "Name your recording" option with a date entered as default name

Choose a recording option – Capture (browser) is recommended for ease of use and consistency. Click the option when you’re ready to continue and begin recording.Image of the record options to launch "capture" or launch "app" for recording.


 

STEP 5 (when selecting: Capture - Browser)

A new window will open in your browser where you can adjust settings and begin recording –

 Change Audio options as needed (select a microphone if multiple mics)

 Change Video options as needed (switch cameras if multiple cams)

 Choose a Screen or App to display in your video – if you need to share within the video your Entire Screen; a specific Window; or a browser Tab you have openImage displaying options for audio; video; and screen and apps sharing.

Click the square red button to stop recording:Two images - Image on left of red stop button. STEP 6 (when selecting: Capture - Browser)

Once you click the stop button, your recorded video will automatically embed in the Panopto Student Submission Tool back in Brightspace. Manage video camera and audio recording options if neededImage displaying Video; Audio; and Quality settings dropdowns.

STEP 6 (when selecting: Panopto for Windows App)

STEP 7 (when selecting: Panopto for Windows App)

Offline Recording
The downloadable Panopto application allows for Offline recording. When recording offline, the application will save the video file, however the file would need to be uploaded to the Panopto website at a later time when connected to the internet.
