Create a Panopto Video (for students)

This document includes steps for creating a video via web browser, as well as the Panopto downloadable application (which allows for ‘offline’ recording – see bottom of document).

The below process of accessing your instructor’s ‘Assignments’ folder will grant you access to the ‘Create’ option in Panopto, so that you can record videos for later submission


 

Create a New Video via Web Browser
System requirements: Latest version of Chrome, Firefox, or Edge is required. iOS Safari version 15.0 and higher is required although not recommended as Safari is still in beta

 

STEP 1

Log in to Brightspace and click in to the Assignment or Discussion where your instructor posted the Panopto video submission assignment


 

STEP 2

Review listed “instructions” from your instructor

You should see a link provided which will point to the instructor’s folder on Panopto.com

Click the link and after it brings you to Panopto, click “Browse” then locate and select the folder that displays “[assignments]” (note: your instructor will give the folder a unique name and may provide it in the instructions as well)Table with 3 columns A, B, and C. STEP 3

Click ‘Create’ on the top left corner of the pageImage depicting the "create" button in panopto.

Select “Panopto Capture” / “Record in browser”Image depicting "record in browser" option in panopto.


 

STEP 5

 Change Audio options as needed (select a microphone if multiple mics)

 Change Video options as needed (switch cameras if multiple cams)

 Choose a Screen or App to display in your video – if you need to share within the video your Entire Screen; a specific Window; or a browser Tab you have openImage displaying options for audio; video; and screen and apps sharing.


 

STEP 6

STEP 7

Click the square red button to stop recordingTwo images - Image on left of red stop button. Update your video name if desired by clicking and replacing the date & time that displays on the top right – By default, the date and time will appear as the video nameImage of the video name, displaying a date by default.

 

**If you need to continue recording where you left off after stopping a recording, follow the below steps:

  1. Hover over your video and select “Settings”
  2. On the “Overview” page, select “Resume in Capture” or “Resume in Panopto for Windows/Mac”3 images - Image on left of available options when hovering over a video, with "Settings" option highlighted with a red rectangle. Create a New Video via downloaded application
System requirements: Mac OS 10.5 and up; Windows 8.1 and up

 

STEP 1

Log in to Brightspace and click in to the Assignment or Discussion where your instructor posted the Panopto video submission assignment

STEP 3

Click ‘Create’ on the top left corner of the page to load downloadable app options
(if you already downloaded Panopto, it can be opened directly from your desktop as well)Image depicting the "create" button in panopto.


 

STEP 4

Select the top option “Panopto for Windows or Mac” / “Record in Application”


 

STEP 5 (if app has not been downloaded yet)

STEP 6

Manage video camera and audio recording options if neededImage displaying Video; Audio; and Quality settings dropdowns.

STEP 8

Offline Recording
The downloadable Panopto application allows for Offline recording. When recording offline, the application will save the video file, however the file would need to be uploaded to the Panopto website at a later time when connected to the internet.
