This guide provides instructions on how to create a Panopto assignment, so that students have access to record a Panopto video and submit it in Brightspace
Create an “Assignments” Folder in Panopto
This configuration will allow students to record via Panopto
STEP 1
Log in to Panopto – If you don’t have a new folder created yet as a sub-folder under “My Folder” that you intend to use for Assignments - then select “Create”
Select “New Folder” from the list of options – Then name it and click “create folder”
STEP 2
Select “Browse” and click on your created sub-folder
STEP 3
Click on the settings wheel on the top right of the page
STEP 4
Select “Overview” from the menu items on the left
Then click "Create Assignment Folder"
Note: This will automatically create the ‘Assignments’ folder as a subfolder under your new created folder
STEP 5
Select your new “assignments” folder to manage settings
Then click the settings wheel on the top right of the page
STEP 6
Select “Settings” from the menu items to the left to manage student capabilities
STEP 7
Ensure your parent folder is shared with your students so they can access the “Assignments” sub-folder (note: only a parent folder can be shared; sub-folders are shared via the parent folder settings)
Click “Browse” ⇒ Click your parent folder ⇒ Then click the settings wheel on the top right of the page
STEP 8
Select “Share” from the menu items on the left
Under “Who can access this folder,” click “change” and select:
“Your Organization/Anyone at your org who has the link”
Creating the Panopto Assignment in Brightspace
STEP 1
In Brightspace, click “Assignments” at the top of the page and then click “New Assignment”
Enter an assignment name and configure your preferred settings for the assignment
(ie: grading; due date; etc.)
On the right side of the page under “Submission & Completion”
Change the “Submission Type” to: “Text Submission”
STEP 2
In Panopto, copy your parent folder link where the “assignments” folder resides
Click “Browse” ⇒ Then click into your parent folder

STEP 3
In Brightspace again, revisit the assignment you’re creating and click the “Insert Stuff” icon at the top of the text editor
STEP 4
Paste your folder link that was copied from Panopto into the URL field
Then click "Next"
Enter Link Text and then click “Insert” at the bottom
You should then see the hyperlink appear within the body of the text editor
STEP 5
Add instructions for students in the text editor so they can find your “Assignments” folder
→ List the name of the Assignments folder you created
→ Direct students to navigate to the Assignments folder and click in to it (this will be after the student clicks the link to your parent folder)
→ Students can look for the folder that displays “[assignments]”

At the bottom of the page, ensure to enable student “Visibility” as needed and click “Save and Close” to save the assignment
