Creating a Passcode for Zoom Meetings

To create a passcode for your Zoom meeting, you must first make sure you are able to access your SUNY Old Westbury Zoom account either by logging in through the Zoom website, or by accessing your Zoom meetings through your SUNY Old Westbury Blackboard account.

Once logged in, either create a Zoom meeting or access a Zoom meeting that you have already previously created that you wish to create the passcode for.

Note: If you do not know how to create a Zoom meeting, then refer to the following knowledge base article: "Creating a Zoom Meeting in Blackboard."

After you have located the Zoom meeting, go to the meeting's settings by selecting the "Edit" button.

In the meeting settings, scroll under until you locate the "Meeting ID" section. Once in the meeting ID section, change the meeting from "Personal Meeting ID" to "Generate Automatically."

Once you have changed the meeting ID, locate the "Security" section under it. In the security section, select the box next to "Passcode." Once this box is selected, Zoom will automatically generate a passcode for your meeting. If you want to change your passcode, click into the passcode's textbox, erase the automatically generated passcode, and type the passcode you wish to use. For this example, the passcode is "test1."

After you have set the passcode, fill out any additional meeting requirements as needed. Once this is complete, select the "Save" button at the bottom of the page.

Your Zoom meeting is now successfully created with a passcode. All meetings can be found by selecting either your customized Zoom tool link, or by selecting "Tools" and then selecting "Zoom Meetings."

Note: Since you edited this meeting to include a passcode, it is suggested that you resend the Zoom invitation to your students so that they have the passcode. If the students do not have the passcode, they will not be able to access the meeting.

If your creation was unsuccessful then reach out to servicedesk@oldwestbury.edu with your name, course ID, and section number so that a member from the ITS department can properly assist you.
